Sub Base

Resin Bound Surface Treatment

Sub Base Construction.

The Resin Bound surfacing can be applied directly onto a concrete or asphalt pavement that has been designed to support the anticipated load.

When it is intended to install the Bound Aggregate where no concrete or asphalt pavement is in place then the sub base must be designed to support the anticipated load. This will usually comprise of consolidated or compacted earth onto which is installed a suitable thickness (100mm to 200mm) of non-frost susceptible damp Type 1 Sub-base to DOT clause 803.

The thickness of the Resin Bound Surface Treatment will depend on service conditions and the type and quality of the sub base. Woodroyd would prefer to be consulted in all cases, but as a guide the following is provided.

Installation on:

Thickness or construction.

New or existing highways, paths or other surfaces that are themselves designed to accept the anticipated load. 8mm to 20mm depending on traffic.
Properly Compacted Class "A" fill. The fill must be designed to support the anticipated load. 30mm to 40mm of PB Base plus 6mm to 20mm of PB Top Coat depending on traffic.
Tree Pits (established trees) 30mm to 40mm of PB Top Coat on 100mm of free draining crushed stone sub-base.
Tree Pits (new planting) 30mm to 40mm of PB Top Coat on 100mm of free draining crushed stone sub-base on a geotextile membrane on reinforced tree soil.
