Description

BOUND AGGREGATE

Description

Woodroyd BOUND AGGREGATE is composed of specially selected aggregate bound together with a clear, non yellowing aliphatic resin. The mixed material is spread onto a suitable surface using hand trowelling techniques to produce a smooth, durable, strong, decorative surface displaying the natural colour of the chosen aggregate.

The material is porous and therefore self draining. This feature makes it ideal as a surfacing for Tree Pits.

Curing or Setting Times

Depends on temperature. Usually allow 24 hours before light traffic. The adhesive can be accelerated for faster cure in cold temperatures.

Thickness

Depends on service conditions and sub base. When installed onto a concrete or asphalt pavement that is capable of supporting anticipated loads, the material can be installed as little as 10mm thick. When installed onto compacted class "A" fill the thickness needs to be increased to 30mm to 60mm depending on service conditions. In such circumstances it is more economical to use the two-layer method described in "How to Specify".

Substrate

The thin system can be applied onto HRA, Macadam, Asphalt, Steel Wood and Concrete. Alternatively compacted class "A" fill is suitable but will require a thicker system. Each type of surface may require appropriate preparation (and in some cases priming). If in doubt, please ask for detailed descriptions of suitable substrates.

Colour

Almost any aggregate can be chosen to achieve the desired appearance. Natural aggregates maintain their colour even in hard wear environments. The binding adhesive is clear and non-yellowing.

Speed of Application

An application crew can install in excess of 60m² in a day. In normal conditions the surface will receive traffic after 24 hours of cure depending on temperature.

Maintenance

The surface will require minimal maintenance, however, as with any external surface, to maintain a fresh appearance it will benefit from pressure washing as required, depending on soil build up.

Durability

Depends on traffic, but this is one of our most durable systems. Because the aggregate is a natural material, it does not loose its colour as it wears.
